Ingredients
Arhar dal (washed and cleaned)
½ cup
Onion (chopped)
1 medium
Tomato (chopped)
1 medium
Garlic cloves (chopped)
3-4
Coriander leaves (chopped)
1-2 tbsp
Dal tadka masala
1 tbsp
Turmeric powder
¼ tsp
Cumin seed
1 tsp
Whole red chili
2-3
Asafoetida (hing)
¼ tsp
Oil
1 tbsp
Water
1.5 cups
Salt
as needed
Recipe Instructions
Step 1
In a pressure cooker, take washed and cleaned arhar dal.
Step 2
Add turmeric powder, salt, water, and stir well.
Step 3
Pressure cook over medium heat until the dal is completely cooked. Keep aside.
Step 4
Now heat oil in a pan.
Step 5
Add cumin seeds, whole red chilies, and asafoetida, and sauté for a few seconds.
Step 6
Add chopped garlic cloves and sauté over low-medium heat until golden in color.
Step 7
Then add chopped tomatoes and sauté until slightly softened.
Step 8
Now add the dal tadka masala and mix well over low heat.
Step 9
Finally, pour the cooked dal and give a nice stir.
Step 10
Simmer for 5-6 minutes or until it reaches a slightly thick consistency.
