Ultimately, what width you choose is up to your personal style. 8 or 9 centimeters are more timeless, 7 is quite slim and will likely go out of fashion again in a few years. On the front side of the tie on the wider blade, take a closer look at the twill pattern. Now if the twill direction is correct on the front, turn the tie around and look at the tie tipping. If you have a hard time seeing it with your eye, maybe use a magnifying glass and it should become very clear what direction the twill is in.
